This site is my Road Trip '98 travel log. I don't know how often I will be updating this site or even whether I will be able to at all. My plan is to upload a few pictures and some text about where I've been once or twice a week. As the trip progresses, check back for links to pictures and log entries.
Note: The pictures in this site where captured from my DV camcorder and because they come from a video source, they're not exactly high quality digital pictures.
Note: Due to the amount if time it takes (and the trouble I'm having with software), unfortunately I can no longer upload pictures. I have them all and I will update this web again once I'm back and have the time to spend doing it. In the meantime I will continue to take 'travel notes' for each day.
Now that the trip is over and as I have more time I will be re-working this site to include the pictures for each day. In addition I am planning on indexing the days by the places I visited as well.
There are now two scanned images of 4x5 negatives online (Photos). Due to scanner limitations, these appear to have much more contrast than they actually have. Also, the detail level shown here is no where near the level of detail that these negatives have actually captured.
Note: This contest has already ended. Doug Amaral was the winner.
With all the pictures I'm taking I figure I'm bound to to a least get one or two good ones. If you can guess how many miles I have after spending 31 days on the road and covering 9 states, then you can win a free print of your choosing. Whoever comes closest, gets to pick. Just email your guess to me with a subject line of Road Trip '98 mileage.
To give you an idea or what you should be guessing, here's some hints:
In the first 11 days I covered the Washington and Oregon coast and have driven roughly 2,000 miles (I made a lot of side trips). I am planning on covering the coast of California down to SF, across to Death Valley, through southern Nevada, southern Utah, northern Arizona, northern New Mexico, and then back through Colorado and whatever else I need to pass through to get back to Seattle.
Good luck.
These are the day-by-day travel logs. They started on 8/6/98.
Note: this is currently missing the last week of data. I will update it soon though....
To see where I've been, save this Push-Pin set for Trip Planner or Streets and then import it (from the file menu). You can use the Push-Pin explorer (from the Tools menu) to navigate by date. Camps, picture locations, and other miscellaneous points of interest I've been to are listed.
(9/6/98 - Day 31) Home, back in Seattle suffering from post-vacation depression.
Off to explore all the places I visited again as I spend countless hours working in my darkroom with the 100+ negatives I have...
