Day 8

Today was a frustrating day. The coast was fogged in the entire day. And only the coast was foggy. If you traveled 250 feet off the coast it was sunny and warm. And the few places it wasn't foggy the wind was blowing 30-40 miles an hour. I ended up traveling about 70 miles before I found a decent place to take a picture and the I almost lost the camera when it shifted into kite mode.  There were many places I has the pass up, but I wrote them down to catch next time I'm in the area.

A section of the fogged-in Oregon coastline.

Once I got to the central Oregon coast, it became very different. Many more cliffs, mostly of bright colored sandstone. There were some sandy beaches, some with small dunes as well as many dark rocky shores. I can easily imagine that many ships were lost on this part of the coast.

One of the many hidden coves along the Oregon coast.

I was a little tired of battling the elements so I just played tourist for awhile. I stopped at a place called "Sea Lion Caves" which is the largest coastal sea cave in the world.  It is home to sometimes several hundred sea lions (there were only 4 there today so I have to take their word). To get there you take an elevator 208 ft through the ground into a viewing area. It was kinda of cool but sort of smelly.

After that, I found one more place to take a picture and then I headed for Dunes national park for the night. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow at the dunes.

One of the coolest scenes I found on the coast.

This part of Oregon is really beautiful, I hope to come back when the weather is better. One other thing that I have noticed about Oregon. There are tons of golf courses and antique and junk shops.
