Today I didn't take any pictures. It was really nice at Snow Canyon but the closest
town, St. George, was a large town and I needed to get the car's oil changed, do laundry,
and some other things. This took the about half a day with all the running around.

By mid
afternoon thought I was on my way to Zion Canyon. When I got there though it was looking
like rain. It was already about 4:30 so I just decided to do a little exploring and wait
until tomorrow.

There is a IMAX theatre right outside the National Park and they were
showing a film on Zion Canyon and the film about the Everest climb so I decided to see
them both. While I was in the car waiting, it started to rain. I have never seen so much
water fall out of the sky in such a short period before. It wasn't raining that hard, but
each drop was about a tablespoon of water. While sitting in my car I witnessed a flash
flood, in the parking lot. Within about 2 minutes there was 2-3 inches of water on
the ground. The parking lot almost instantly turned into a lake. At one point I was
looking out the side window and the wind started to blow and it was as if someone threw a
bucket on water at the car. A solid wall of water just hit the window with a splash. Then
as fast as it happened, it suddenly stopped and then the water disappeared.
As for the films, the Zion one is scenic and all but a little hokey. They really tried
to emphasize the mystical nature of the canyon as well as it's history. Plus the
cinematography isn't that great. There were a couple of cool scenes though of the Narrows
area of the canyon. The Everest one of the other hand is really good.
After that the weather still wasn't too good so I just did a little exploring of the
canyon. It reminds me a lot of Yosemite except that the walls are made of Navajo sandstone
which is a fairly bright corral color. It's also a bit deeper and narrower than Yosemite.
I ended up trying to explore the Narrows section of the canyon, a place where you can get
to 'slot' canyons but you had to wade up the river about 1 hour or so and it's flash flood
season and after the display earlier today I decided it probably wasn't a good idea.
So, after I explored for an hour or two I found a place to stay, made something to eat
and went to sleep (in the car again; if it had rained on the tent, it would have taken me
hours to pack it up in the morning). My plan was to get up early and catch up on lost
time.
